Responding to critics Trusting News
About our organization: A significant portion of the public is skeptical about both voting processes and the news industry. They doubt the integrity of both. Yet journalists often leave both skeptics and news avoiders out. They assume their complex, detail-rich stories will be consumed by people who have only a casual relationship to the news. And they don’t prioritize responding to critics — either ignoring them or responding with condescension, jargon or links to time-consuming coverage.
Since 2016, Trusting News has been equipping journalists to respond to critics in ways that are understandable, human and persuasive.
How we can help you: Trusting News is offering one-on-one support for newsrooms facing public perception challenges following the election. We will be monitoring general public perceptions of both news and the election and we will coach newsrooms privately through their own tricky interactions during the post-election period.
