Princeton's Bridging Divides Initiative: Understanding Threats and Harassment Against Local Officials

The Bridging Divides Initiative

BDI’s Understanding Threats and Harassment project is a first-of-its-kind public effort to systematically monitor threats and harassment against local officials around the United States. The project employs a unique mixed methods approach that combines three distinct but interrelated research streams: event data, surveys, and interviews. All research products are freely available to journalists, including: the full event-level Threats and Harassment Dataset, updated monthly; the nationally representative survey, updated quarterly; and qualitative reports from our interview program, released regularly throughout the year.

About our organization: BDI is a non-partisan research initiative that tracks and mitigates political violence in the United States.

How we can help you cover the 2024 elections: We are available to provide briefings as well as data and analysis support, capacity permitting.
